Since 2000, NXDATA has contributed to the development of Romania’s digital infrastructure through colocation, connectivity and interconnection services. The timeline below highlights the key milestones that have contributed to the development of the ecosystem built around NXDATA data centers.
NXDATA COMPANY HISTORY

2000
NXDATA was founded at a time when Romania's data center industry was still in its early stages. The company's vision was to become an independent operator focused exclusively on critical infrastructure and carrier-neutral services.

2002
COLO-1 at NXDATA-1 became operational, marking the first carrier-neutral data center in Romania. This milestone laid the foundations for an open colocation and interconnection ecosystem that continues to develop today.

2003
In 2003, following the liberalization of Romania's voice services market, the first telecom operators chose NXDATA as a neutral interconnection point. The same year, development of COLO-2 began, along with the construction of the first underground fiber-optic ducts and the expansion of redundant power and cooling infrastructure.

2004
In 2004, NXDATA completed the expansion of the data center with the opening of COLO-2, adding another 50 m² of colocation space. In the same year, Romtelecom installed the first SDH equipment at the NXDATA neutral colocation center, while Vodafone, Orange, Cosmote and RCS-RDS included NXDATA in their reference offerings for interconnection with their own voice networks. The increase in the number of customers also led to an expansion of the cooling capacity of the NXDATA-1 data center.

2005
In 2005, NXDATA expanded its own duct network for the distribution of electrical power and fiber-optic cables to the Pipera business district. The new infrastructure facilitated telecom operators' access to fiber-optic networks, alongside an expansion of the data center's cooling capacity.

2006
In 2006, NXDATA-1 colocation space reached 200 m², while cooling capacity and electrical infrastructure were expanded. That same year, NXDATA implemented the first VESDA system in a commercial data center in Romania and introduced dedicated cable trays for fiber-optic cable management.

2007
In 2007, NXDATA carried out a major upgrade of the electrical infrastructure at NXDATA-1, modernizing the power supply systems, generators and UPS infrastructure, while also expanding cooling capacity. That same year, the company began identifying a location for the future NXDATA-2 data center.

2008
In 2008, NXDATA began construction of the company's second data center, NXDATA-2, representing an investment of more than EUR 1 million. Completed by the end of the year, the new data center was designed with redundant infrastructure and connected to NXDATA-1 through a dedicated fiber-optic network, strengthening the company's interconnection ecosystem. In parallel, NXDATA continued modernizing and expanding the NXDATA-1 infrastructure to support the continued growth of colocation and connectivity services.

2009
In 2009, NXDATA-2 became operational, marking the company's most significant infrastructure expansion to date. That same year, the first customers began installing their equipment in the new data center, strengthening the carrier-neutral ecosystem and expanding NXDATA's capacity to provide colocation, connectivity and interconnection services.

2010
In 2010, NXDATA completed the connection of the NXDATA-1 and NXDATA-2 data centers to the Netcity metropolitan network, strengthening access to Bucharest's fiber-optic infrastructure. That same year, the backup power capacity of NXDATA-2 was expanded through the installation of new diesel generators, while TELECOMUNICAȚII CFR chose NXDATA to establish a Point of Presence within the NXDATA-2 data center.

2011
In 2011, NXDATA joined IDC-G (Independent Data Center Group), a global alliance of independent data center operators. Membership in the organization strengthened the company's international presence and facilitated collaboration with data center operators worldwide to provide colocation solutions on a global scale.

2012
In 2012, NXDATA continued expanding its infrastructure by developing a new colocation room, COLO-4, at NXDATA-1, along with further investments in the cooling systems of the NXDATA-1 and NXDATA-2 data centers. That same year, information about the two data centers was included in the global TeleGeography database.

2013
In 2013, NXDATA completed the COLO-4 colocation room, expanding the capacity of the NXDATA-1 data center by another 300 m² and up to 100 racks. That same year, Hurricane Electric, one of the world's largest Internet service providers and operator of one of the most extensive IPv6 networks, established a Point of Presence at NXDATA-1. In parallel, M247 expanded its operations in Romania through the NXDATA data centers, strengthening the company's position as a regional connectivity and interconnection hub.

2014
In 2014, NXDATA was one of the sponsors of RONOG #4, the first Network Operators Group conference organized in Romania, held immediately after the EURO-IX Forum. Participation in this event reflected the company's active involvement in the development of the telecommunications operator community and the interconnection ecosystem in Romania.

2015
In 2015, NXDATA completed an extensive modernization program for the electrical infrastructure at NXDATA-1. The new physically separated power rooms increased the capacity and resilience of the power supply infrastructure.

2016
In 2016, NXDATA completed another modernization program for the power supply infrastructure at the NXDATA-1 data center. The existing diesel generators were replaced with two new units, each with a capacity of 1,500 kVA, tested at nominal power using specialized load-bank equipment. The investment strengthened the resilience of the infrastructure and prepared the data center for increasingly demanding availability and operational continuity requirements.

2017
In 2017, NXDATA strengthened its position as one of Romania's most important interconnection hubs, bringing together more than 100 connectivity service providers across the NXDATA-1 and NXDATA-2 data centers. The company's infrastructure continued to evolve through fully redundant power and cooling systems, advanced monitoring via its proprietary NXDATA-DCIM platform, and the implementation of adiabatic cooling technology to improve operational efficiency. That same year, NXDATA was ranked 10th in the EMEA region in Cloudscene's ranking of the world's most connected data center operators, recognizing the interconnection ecosystem developed across the two Bucharest data centers.

2018
In 2018, specialists from the NXDATA team obtained the international Uptime Institute Accredited Operations Specialist (AOS) and Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) certifications, confirming the company's expertise in designing and operating critical infrastructure. That same year, the NXDATA interconnection ecosystem expanded through the launch of the TVX Platform, a neutral national infrastructure administered by the InterLAN Association that facilitates TV content distribution via IP Multicast to cable operators and Internet service providers.

2019
In 2019, NXDATA continued investing in the infrastructure of the NXDATA-1 and NXDATA-2 data centers, supporting the development of colocation, connectivity and interconnection services.

2020
In 2020, NXDATA continued developing its infrastructure by starting construction of the new COLO-8 colocation room at the NXDATA-1 data center. That same year, the launch of the Amazon CloudFront Edge Location in Bucharest and the growing presence of international network and content distribution providers contributed to the development of the NXDATA interconnection ecosystem and reduced latency for users.

2021
In 2021, NXDATA continued investing in the technical and operational infrastructure of the NXDATA-1 and NXDATA-2 data centers, supporting the development of colocation capacity and the carrier-neutral ecosystem.

2022
In 2022, NXDATA completed construction and brought the new COLO-8 colocation room into operation, expanding the capacity of the NXDATA-1 data center. That same year, site preparation works began for the development of NXDATA-3. The project represents the largest investment in the company's history and marks the next stage in the expansion of the critical infrastructure and interconnection ecosystem developed by NXDATA.

In 2023, development of NXDATA-3 continued through the design and technical preparation stages for the new data center, building on NXDATA's experience gained through more than two decades of designing and operating critical infrastructure.

2024
In 2024, the NXDATA-3 project continued to advance through the technical and operational stages required for the development of the new data center. Designed for IT infrastructure with high power, availability and scalability requirements, NXDATA-3 represents the next stage in the expansion of NXDATA's capacity.

2025
In 2025, development of NXDATA-3 continued, marking a new stage in the expansion of NXDATA infrastructure. That same year, GNM-IX opened a new Point of Presence at NXDATA-1, expanding the peering options available within the NXDATA ecosystem.

2026
In 2026, Zayo Europe selected NXDATA-1 to launch its first Point of Presence in Bucharest, providing direct access to one of the world's most extensive Tier 1 IP networks and strengthening NXDATA's role as a regional interconnection hub. In parallel, development of NXDATA-3, the company's third data center and the largest expansion project in NXDATA's history, continues.
